About Travel Journalism

"Once the travel bug bites there is no known antidote, and I know that I shall be happily infected until the end of my life."

Michael Palin

Travel Journalism

Travel journalism is a profession that requires individuals to travel to a wide variety of destinations and to create written content about that location. Common topics these professionals focus on include the tourism industry, an area’s local culture, and destinations for tourists.

For example, a travel journalist may take a trip with a travel company and write about their daily experiences for a blog post. This could include the food they eat and any conversations with residents.

The travel company might use this blog as promotional content to encourage new customers to travel to that area.

Mark is a Freelance Travel Journalist. A freelance travel journalist is a professional who provides content for independent clients, rather than a specific company. Many freelance journalists approach various publications and other companies with pitches of ideas for new travel articles, blogs or books.

If the company accepts, the journalist then travels to the designated location to conduct research and complete the project they pitched.
